Too Darn Hot's Oversubscribed Flies Home to Capture Wild Applause Stakes

Oversubscribed | Susie Raisher

Oversubscribed (GB) (f, 3, Too Darn Hot {GB}–Zurigha {Ire}, by Cape Cross {Ire}) came flying home to run to the money as the even-money favorite in Saturday's $150,000 Wild Applause Stakes at the Big A.

Sixth as Macanga (American Pharoah) and Oversubscribed's Chad Brown-trained stablemate Chantilly Road (Quality Road) sped off through fractions of :23.02 and :46.03, Oversubscribed still had her work cut out for her at the top of the stretch. Macanga led by 5 1/2 lengths at the stretch call, but Oversubscribed was just getting warmed up. Oversubscribed kicked it into high gear as the pacesetter began to tire and stormed home to score by 3 1/4 lengths.

Vino Rouge (Vino Rosso) was up for second. Macanga tired to third.

Oversubscribed, a dead-heat debut winner over the Tampa lawn Feb. 10, was previously a troubled second as the heavy favorite behind Macanga in a local optional claimer May 5.

“I felt like there was going to be some pace, but when they open up so much–and I had respect for the horses up front–you never know if you're going to be able to run them down,” winning rider Flavien Prat said. “Thankfully, she did. When I tipped her out and asked her to make a run, she responded very well.”

Oversubscribed becomes the ninth black-type winner for Dalham Hall Stud second-crop sire Too Darn Hot (GB). The winner's dam had a colt by Dark Angel (Ire) in 2023.
